WHEN TO SEE AN ORTHODONTIST

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children visit an orthodontist for their first visit between the age of 7 and 8 years of age. At that age we are checking for crowding, missing or extra teeth, jaw/bite relationship, habits that may affect the teeth or jaw growth such as finger or thumb sucking, mouth breathing, and tongue posture/thrusting.

Most orthodontic treatment begins between the ages of 11-13 depending on growth and development of the child. In some cases early treatment may be recommended due to severe crowding or to correct a skeletal discrepancy between the jaws.
